15 Celebrities You Had No Idea Were Actually Black

It is pretty safe to say that virtually everyone is a blend of at least two if not more ethnicities, and sometimes that blend can leave people looking more like one ethnicity than the others they represent. These celebrities prove that while they may look one way, looks can in fact be deceiving.

Mariah Carey

Okay, so maybe you did know that Mariah Carey was bi-racial. I mean you can look at her and see she is mixed with something; but what exactly might that be? In 1999 the singer, songwriter, and actress told Jet Magazine, “Ethnically, I’m a person of mixed race. My father’s mother was African American. His father was from Venezuela. My mother is Irish. I see myself as a person of color who happens to be mixed with a lot of things.” Carey’s career has been astounding and represented both sides of her ethnicity over the course of the years. She broke onto the scene with tunes that reflected more of a pop sound, but as her career grew she eventually ventured into the hip-hop arena creating and being featured in songs with artists such as Jadakiss, Mase, and even Jay-Z.
