Is it a Fling, or the Real Thing?

Okay ladies, we’ve all been there. You’ve been going out with a great guy for a couple months and want to take the relationship to the next level, but it hasn’t happened yet: what do you do? Well, before you go the ultimatum route, there may be a few things to consider  about your present relationship and why it’s not going at the pace you’d like it to. So sit back, relax, and read on to find out whether the guy you’re dating is meant to be a fling, or the real thing.

The Proof is in the Past

By now,  you should know at least some of your dude’s past relationship history. Has he had serious girlfriends before? Or does his relationship past mirror that of Charlie Sheen’s. Maybe he’s hardly dated anyone at all – whatever the case may be, your guy’s dating past will play a significant role in his relationship-ready present, so it’s important you take that into account before diving head first into monogamy land.

Read Between the Lines

Once you’ve determined your beau isn’t violently allergic to women, or the idea of being exclusive with one, it’s time to ask yourself the hard  questions. If everything is going so well, why hasn’t he asked you to be his girlfriend himself? Have you been subconsciously sending him mixed messages about your readiness to go one-on-one with him? Or maybe he’s the one who’s been hesitant about getting serious? Sure, the onus isn’t always on the guy to initiate “The Talk”, but let’s be honest, if everything were going swimmingly, there would be no need for “The Talk” in the first place (and you probably wouldn’t be reading this article, either). Whatever the reason, it’s important to think about the messages you’re both sending to each other, and how they affect the status of your relationship.

Sometimes, all it takes is time before your guy realizes you’re everything he’s ever dreamed of.  Although you may have already begun picking out items on your wedding registry, it’s important to remember that most guys move at a slower pace than women do, and you have to respect that. How long you should wait is up to you, but let’s put it this way: if you’re starting to grow gray hairs in the process, then clearly, your dude is not as wonderful as you think, and it’s time to move on.
